Early in 2001, Nadja Adolf mentioned seeing something odd - that the MMM's national headquarters was within a hospital owned and operated by the city and county of San Francisco - SF General (per their own website).  (Note: previous wrong info on this site said that this wasn't Nadja's original research - not so.)

Together, Nadja and I did some digging.  We went on-site to find out what the hospital thought was going on, obtained tax filings from the MMM's "charity" statements, and did web research that culminated in the first report on the subject. (Adobe Acrobat Reader required, download at the link above if necessary.)

Upon giving a copy of that to the SF Examiner, reporter Chris Merill did some digging and filed this report on 4/12/01.  That in turn led to inquiries by the SF Board of Supervisors.  Update 6/20/02: The SF Examiner link to the story has gone dead, but the text is also available where I posted it to a web-forum.  (There's also the text of the short link/blurb to the SF Exam story by the Wall Street Journal!)

I wrote a follow-up report to the initial article, tracing the history of particular members of this mob. Click here for the second report, it's another Acrobat file.

Soon after, part of the MMM organization merged with Sarah Brady's HCI.  It seems that while both morally and financially bankrupt, the MMM had managed to start a grassroots network of local activist covens that Sarah Brady and company had never managed to scrape up, hence the merger.  There are some very interesting internal MMM/Brady memos archived here.

I had intended to write a third article dealing with how the MMM had co-opted local churches but instead, fed information to reporter Allyson Smith of the SF Faith Catholic journal; her report can be viewed here, with additional commentary.

Note: this set of events dates from before Jim March disassociated himself from the http://www.keepandbeararms.com website over disagreements with Angel’s position on the NRA.  Despite our differences, Angel is still being credited here for his past work in layout, editing and graphics prep on some of the documents, and some "pieces of the story" are still on his site.
