Today’s Los Angeles Times featured an article about Lou Dobbs’ resignation.
There’s an element of gallows humor in Lou Dobbs’ resignation. Dobbs opened the debate doors to all who disagreed with him concerning illegal immigration. Yet, Dobbs’ most vociferous opponents were often those who wanted no debate at all regarding this controversy. It’s transparent & pathetic to listen to those hypocritical Americans who seek to keep other unskilled Americans jobless so multitudes of illegal aliens can keep their jobs. Calling opponents of illegal immigration hate mongers, racists, & similar slurs is playing the only card in the accuser’s hands, and is little more than a convenient tool used by those advocates who lack cogent & valid contra arguments. Such tactics paint opponents as villains and are solely designed to place them on the defensive, and avoid a dialog/debate where facts trump hyperbole.
Looks like the finger pointers prevailed & you folded your tent & threw in the towel. I call that a pyrrhic victory for the finger pointers.
This whole abhorrent pantomime reminds me of W. Somerset Maugham’s, - “Hypocrisy is the most difficult and nerve-racking vice that any man can pursue; it needs an unceasing vigilance and a rare detachment of spirit. It cannot, like adultery or gluttony, be practiced at spare moments; it is a whole-time job”.
