A couple of day ago Senator McCain was interviewed by the Tucson Citizen's editorial board. His comments included, "I believe that the majority of Hispanics share our view that the border must be secured, and the border must be secured first. But they also want us to have an attitude, which I think most Americans do, that these are God's children and they must be taken care of, or the issue must be addressed, in a humane and compassionate fashion.”One of the reporters should have Senator McCain if unskilled Americans, in addition to being God’s children, are also American children? If so, shouldn’t the welfare of these American workers take precedent over the welfare of illegal immigrants?
According to the Department of Labor, 10.3 million American workers are looking for jobs. The DOL estimates that 533,000 jobs were eliminated by employers last month. Using annualized DHS data, 140,000 new workers were added to the federal immigration program during the same period.
According to the Pew Hispanic Center, an estimated seven million jobs are currently held by illegal immigrants.
According to the Christian Science Monitor, April 1, 2008 edition of the Christian Science Monitor, “By most recent estimates, nearly half a million unauthorized immigrants cross the border each year”. So we have a pitiful & underhanded system where 533,000 Americans lost their jobs during the same period where nearly 200,000 legal & illegal immigrants were added to the rolls of job seekers.
With our national jobless rate at 6.7% nationally, and 8.4% here in California, - the highest jobless rate in 14 years, we continue to hear clamors from stealth ideologues like Senator McCain to insure the legal presence of some 3 million illegal immigrants in California, and 12 million nationally. People like Senator McCain seem to have little concern for unemployed Americans, or for the mega $ billions annually these unlawful migrants are costing American taxpayers. It’s $10 billion annually just here in California, (net) a state with a $15 billion deficit. Nationally the figure is between $35 Billion & $40 Billion.
The American people would be foolish in the extreme to believe much of what Senator McCain has to say about immigration.
