Dumping on Bush is extremely useful so that we never again make such a blunder when selecting a president. Bush’s incompetence was so widespread & enormous that it created an unstoppable political force to change direction. Some of Bush’s blunders:• Attacked a country that had nothing to do with 9-11.
• Allowed his Secretary of Defense to ignore the recommendations of the Joint Chiefs of Staff regarding insufficient U.S. troop strength in Iraq. Where would we be today if we’d only concentrated on Afghanistan?
• Forced the resignation of Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill in 2002 because he had the honesty & clear-eyed vision to warn Bush about the forthcoming economic train wreck years before it happened; - a factual point-of-view that contrasted sharply with Bush’s ideological thrombosis. If he’d only listened to Secretary O’Neill.
• Failed to veto a single bill for five years as the federal budget deficit matesticized into a frenzy of malfeasance, - a virtual smorgasbord for ideologues & lobbyists.
• Sleep-walked through the initial phases of Katrinia.
• Hired low-grade-ore federal officials like Donald Rumsfeld, Alberto Gonzales, Harriet Myers, Michael Brown (et al). He even nominated Harriet Myers for associate justice to the Supreme Court.
• Winked while Attorney General Gonzales presided over the political firings of outstanding U.S. Attorneys simply because they weren’t in lock-step with Bush’s ideological thrombosis. Gonzales later pleaded incompetence & amnesia.
• Stonewalled the efforts of states like California, Arizona, ect, to recover billions of state funds expended for social services, -prison costs, ect, caused by the ravages of illegal immigration, - a direct result of Bush’s failure to enforce our immigration laws.
• Championed the grotesquely absurd theory about “willing workers & willing employers”, in effect wiping his feet on the faces of unskilled American workers & innocent American taxpayers. Clueless that the U.S. has a surplus of legal unskilled workers. Clueless that saving American jobs for American citizens is vital to our national stability, particularly when these jobs are being performed by illegal immigrants. Clueless that unemployed/low-skilled Americans insure social instability and justifiable populace anger because of the malfeasance of distant federal government officials who favor the welfare of company owners and illegal immigrants over their American counterparts. Clueless about the international economic reality expressed in the 2007 EU law, "Return Directive” that approved the repatriation of undocumented immigrants at a time when unemployment because of illegals is on the rise in Europe. If illegals cause unemployment in Europe, why not in the U.S.A.? Clueless & unconcerned that most Americans staunchly oppose illegal immigration.
• Ignored the security reality (until 2007) that we couldn’t call ourselves safe when we didn’t know who was entering the country. If millions of penniless illegal immigrants could walk across our borders annually, why couldn’t well-trained & financed terrorists do the same?
Pardon me if I don’t construct a bunker regarding your warnings about “a domestic security force for my neighborhood”. The black helicopters are coming. Aux Barricades!
