Dear Senator Feinstein: Re: Was Lou Dobbs correct?

When he recently remarked, “But I think this is politics at its dirtiest, its worst, its most duplicitous. And Senator Feinstein I frankly thought was a legislator with more character, more honor. And to be involved in this is utterly just absurd.” Let’s review the background of your infatuation with shepherds, goat herders and dairy herders.

Your latest attempt to grant amnesty to some 1.3 million agricultural workers is a virtual replay of last June’s “Comprehensive Immigration Reform”. S-1639 was written in virtual secrecy by a few senators gathered outside normal legislative channels, without any public hearings, with severe restrictions upon amendments, and with little consideration for the nation’s federal, state & local government’s abilities to pay for, or administer the legislation. It was a brazen, bare-knuckled approach to ram the bill down the Senate’s throat in the dead-of-night. It was also an attempt by the “Grand Partnership” to load-up so much information in a short period of time, - - hundreds of pages of inscrutable mice type, - to insure that most Senators wouldn’t have sufficient time to read or understand this deluge of data.

Your rider to the Iraq Supplemental Bill is based upon the fable that this is an emergency to preclude crops rotting in the fields. In reality, - what is truly rotten, and rotten to the core, is the duty to the welfare of our country on the part of malfeasants like Senator Dianne Feinstein. The bottom line of your malfeasance is that you know full well that the only way that you and plotters like Senators Kennedy & Reid can succeed in protecting shepherds, goat herders and dairy herders, is through stealth pirouettes & sleazy backroom pantomimes that are out-of-sight of the bright lights of democratic scrutiny.

You’ve been in the Senate for 16 years, certainly long enough to know that by holding down natural wage growth in labor-intensive industries, illegal immigration serves as a subsidy for low-wage, low-productivity ways of doing business, - retarding technological progress and productivity growth. All this on the backs of unskilled American workers and innocent American taxpayers. By plotting to perpetuate these amnesties for illegal alien workers, all you’ve really done is continue scratching the backs of growers who’ve broken our laws for years, and continue stockpiling IOUs from tribal clapping circles. When will you ever learn that walking distance to our borders & tribal Chauvinism aren’t justifications for ignoring this nation’s immigration laws?

You’ve also been in the Senate long enough to know that between 1925 and 1965, U.S. immigration levels were so low that the foreign-born population actually declined. Yet, during that period, the United States built the largest economy the world had ever seen. And while building this economy, we also successfully prosecuted a world war on two fronts, initiated the space program that would soon put a man on the moon, hosted a strong and vibrant labor movement, made huge strides for civil rights, established a vast and stable middle class and invented computers - all while managing to get our crops harvested, our lawns mowed, our dishes washed, our meat packed, our children watched, our houses cleaned, and our gardens tended. The idea that somehow we suddenly can't run a country without an unlimited supply of uneducated & unskilled foreigners is absurd.

In short, Lou Dobbs was right.

Sincerely,

Michael Scott
