Regarding your comments in today’s L.A. Times, - "There is a misrepresentation, misinterpretation, misunderstanding on the part of all the concerned parties here -- whether it is immigrant advocates, immigrant haters, the talk shows, drive-time radio talk-show hosts. When it comes to our situation in L.A, the vast majority of them don't know what they are talking about."
Because my parents didn’t give birth to stupid children, I’m amazed that the Mayor’s gang interdiction programs concentrate on the worthy goal of blunting gang recruitment, to the exclusion of what to do when checking the immigration status of known gang members. All that’s basically needed regarding identifying gang members for deportation is allowing the LAPD to access ICE’s data base, -when appropriate. If there’s a match regarding a previous deportation, or other references of being here illegally, that’s sufficient grounds to notify ICE. What more do you need when an illegal gang member is discovered?
The Mayor’s approach to such matters has always been, “when in doubt mumble and hyperbolize”, - - and I’ll bet you a new squad car that when it’s all said & done, Antonio Villaraigosa & Richard Alarcón will prevail & it’s going to be more the same of zero + zero = zero. And – more Jamiel Shaws.
Sincerely,
Michael Scott
