“The real hypocrisy in all this is that in backing Kosovar independence, these devotees of the war on terror (and quixotic cold warriors) are supporting the creation of an Islamicist state within Europe. Putin, by opposing this Trojan horse, proves himself to be the true patriot of the West.”I’m not certain why a small country like Kosovo with a population that’s 90% Albanian, should want to be part of Serbian oppression. Kosovo has been ethnic Albanian since the second millennium BC. Serbs didn't arrive until the 7th-Century. The region has ping-ponged back & forth by occupying armies for centuries. Kosovo was first subdued by the Romans. Toward the end of the 12th century the Serbs annexed Kosovo. In 1389 an invading Ottoman army inflicted heavy casualties on the Serbian army in the Battle of Kosovo, leading to the subsequent conquest of all of Serbia by the Ottoman Empire in 1459. This drove huge population blocks of Serbs northward. In 1878 Albanians in the region formed the League of Prizren to resist Ottoman rule, and a provisional government was formed in 1881. In 1912 anti-Ottoman resistance in Kosovo assumed a broad scale and succeeded in expelling the Ottomans. Kosovo was included in the newly independent state of Albania in 1912, but the following year the Great Powers (Austria-Hungary, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, and Russia) forced Albania to cede the region to Serbia. In 1918 Kosovo was incorporated into the newly established Kingdom of the Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes, later renamed Yugoslavia.
During World War II Kosovo was briefly assigned to Albania. In 1946 it was granted autonomous status within Serbia. Periodic uprisings by ethnic Albanians gradually led to greater autonomy for the region, but riots in 1981 fueled a Serbian backlash. Rising Serbian resentment against Albanians resulted in protest marches and helped facilitate the rise to power of Slobodan Milosevic in 1987. Milo brought an end to the region's autonomy in March 1989, placing Kosovo under de-facto military occupation. Albanian media was suppressed, and all Albanian-language education was suspended I’ve never understood how genocide is an acceptable policy of a "sovereign" nation against its own "citizens".
Milosevic was one hell of a guy. Superb willpower and imagination by forging and fostering the psychosis that Serbia is the rightful "owner" of Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina , Slovenia , Macadamia , Montenegro , and autonomous regions like Kosovo. Never mind that this region was the handy work of the victors of World War 1.
The highest honors medal is for Milo 's innovative crafting of Ethnic Cleansing. This surgical program targets former Yugoslav Federation residents who speak different languages than Serbo-Croatian, go to different churches, have different cultural backgrounds, and share a common desire for national identity, separate and apart from Serbia. The tactical granite pillars of Milo's inspired program are to surround a city, town or village of ethnic dissident residents, shell it, loot it, burn it to the ground, rob the residents, execute fighting aged males, selectively rape the women, and force the survivors out of what is rightfully Greater Serbia.
Some of Milo ’s contributions to Greater Serbia:
• Forcing 1,000,000 ethnic dissidents to become refugees since 1991.
• Killing 200,000 Bosnians between 1991 -1996.
• Killing 100,000 Croatians between 1991 - 1996
• Killing 10,000 Bosnians from the town of Srebrenica in 3 days in 1991. This is a record.
• Lobbing 800,000 shells into the Croatian town of Vukovar in 1993 during a three month period. Although the 10,000 figure achieved in three days at Srebrenicia was not achieved, the number of Croatians killed by the shelling & burning was 4000, and another 6000 men & boys executed. So we had another five figure bag.
• Another five figure landmark. Killing 10,500 residents of Sarajevo , Bosnia in 1992 by artillery and sniper fire.
• And a special Milo medal for persistence. After failing to compel Kosovar Albanians to use the Serbo-Croatian language in their schools when Milo declared martial law in 1989, our hero remained true to his convictions in 1999 by publicly hanging teachers of ethnically cleansed towns & villages.
These medals should have been selectively distributed to the brave Serbian freedom fighters of the last decade. When the Croatians, Bosnians and Slovenes were equally armed, they most often routed this army of butchers, looters and rapists. Too bad the civilized world waited so long to rid Kosovo of the Serbian butchers.Putin "a true patriot of the West". Gimmy a break.
