“Mr. Calderón, other officials say, is also trying to reshape the immigration debate in the United States by showcasing the “hard work” and “economic benefits” that his compatriots represent to the U.S. economy and economic integration of the two countries.”

Jim, sounds like Calderón has been smoking his house plants. According to the July 2007 U.S. Census Bureau, there are 54,277,000 million Americans, ages 16-64, who aren’t in the labor force. This includes 23 million "non college educated" American working-age adults who, for a variety of reasons, don’t have a job. Narrowing down these segments, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, of those actively seeking employment who can’t find a full-time job in the current economy, there are 14 million Americans. I suppose in Calderón’s book this makes me a fascist, but it’s got to be Americans first.

Shame on Calderón, and all the losers who preceded him for not creating the social-economic conditions for its people to want to stay home and contribute to their development. Instead, the conditions created by their political system are so intolerable that millions of Mexicans prefer to risk life and limb rather than subsisting in such conditions.

Tribal chauvinism coupled with walking distance proximity to our borders hardly justifies Calderón’s ideological seizures. In reality, illegal immigration is a metastasizing open sore.
