December 11, 2007Senator Edward M. Kennedy
United State Senate
Fax 202-224-2417Dear Senator Kennedy: Re: Ideological Water Boarding
During Lou Dobbs’ TV program last evening, Mr. Dobbs stated, “I bet all we can say, if you're listening in the White House, you guys, you really, you need to go home, now. It's really enough. And all of you in congress, and Senator Kennedy, please, quit lying (about immigration) to the American people”.
As one of the Senate’s floor leaders for the 1965 Immigration Act, you stated, "What the bill will not do: First, our cities will not be flooded with a million immigrants annually. Under the proposed bill, the present level of immigration remains substantially the same. Secondly, the ethnic mix of this country will not be upset. Contrary to the charges in some quarters, S. 500 will not inundate America with immigrants from any one country or area." Each of your “projections” proved to be shamefully understated; to the mega detriment of our innocent nation.
You used the following pious smears against opponents of the above legislation, “The charges I have mentioned are highly emotional, irrational, with little foundation in fact. They are out of line with the obligations of responsible citizenship. They breed hate of our heritage.” Nothing much has changed today as you continue sans facts pious finger-pointing against opponents of your stealth immigration proposals. In fact, it’s your sneaky immigration legislation that’s “highly emotional, irrational, with little foundation in fact.”
At the Center for National Policy, Feb. 8, 1996, you stated, "We should strengthen our immigration laws to prevent the importation of foreign wages and working conditions. We should make it illegal for employers to lay off Americans and then fill their jobs by bringing in workers from overseas. Any U.S. employer who wishes to hire from abroad, even for temporary jobs, should have to recruit U.S. workers first. And we should end the unskilled immigration that competes with young Americans just entering the job market."
You followed-up the above statement by authoring the surreptitious & gruesome “Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2007”, a veiled amnesty bill written in virtual secrecy by a few senators gathered outside normal legislative channels, without any public hearings, with severe restrictions upon amendments, and with little consideration for the nation’s labor requirements, or our federal, state & local government’s abilities to pay for, or administer the legislation. It was a brazen, bare-knuckled approach to ram the bill down the Senate’s throat in the dead-of-night. It was your attempt via the “Grand Partnership” to load-up so much information in a short period of time, - - 600+ hundred pages of inscrutable mice type, - to insure that most Senators wouldn’t have sufficient time to read or understand this deluge of data. Just so you, once again, could sandbag your fellow citizens and attempt to liberate them from the rigors of self-determination.
Lou Dobbs was right. Go home Senator Kennedy. Enough of your ideological water boarding. Stop wiping your feet on the faces of your fellow Americans. The age of American innocence with immigration has ended.
Sincerely,
Michael Scott
