Kangaroo Courted Border Patrol Agents

President Bush is under increasing pressure to pardon two Border Patrol agents Kangaroo Courted to 11 & 12 year prison sentences in 2006.

U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton, who prosecuted Border Patrol agents Ramos & Compean for shooting drug smuggler Esvaldo Aldrete Davila, has been hoisted by his own petard. On February 17, 2005, the two border patrol agents shot the fleeing drug smuggler in the buttocks, before he escaped back into Mexico.
Because of complaints by the Mexican government, Sutton tracked down the drug smuggler in Mexico and provided him with immunity to testify against the Border Patrol agents. Sutton also provided Aldrete Davila with an extended border pass to enter the U.S. as part of the immunity agreement. The drug smuggler used this entry pass to smuggle an additional 753 pounds of marijuana into the U.S. on October 22, 2005. This has been fully documented by DEA Agent Christopher Sanchez, and yet Sutton waited for two more years to prosecute the drug smuggler.

The above information was in Sutton’s possession several months before the Ramos-Compean trial, but he nevertheless hid it from the jury, which ultimately convicted the Border Patrol agents. Such information in the hands of the jury would have destroyed Esvaldo Aldrete Davila’s credibility and Sutton’s, and this shameful travesty would have self-destructed.
